I am an International Studies major with an Emphasis in Health Science with a minor in Russian. I am also a Cosmetology student at the Hair Academy-Paul Mitchell Partner School.
I started cooking as early as 5 years old. In the picture to the left, I am making homemade yams for Thanksgiving. I wasn't afraid to get my fingers covered in butter or anything! I was 7 years old in this picture. I remember my grandma Evelyn and my mama having me help them cook appetizers,Entrees, and desert's for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. I have also had the privilege of working in many Restaurants such as different Fast Food chains, Red Robin, Applebee's, and Old Faithful Inn Dining Room at Yellowstone National Park where I had the opportunity to learn to cook and try many dishes. These experiences sparked my interest in cooking. It wasn't until I got into college where I decided to develop my cooking skills further. I have quite the stack of all sorts of cooking books! There were recipe's I messed up and even caught my stove on fire, But eventually I picked up the art of cooking!I have also gone as far as living like the pioneers did in the 1800's for a couple of days with my church's youth group. I had to kill my own chicken for my group. It was horrible that I (being a girl and all) had to kill the chicken, pluck all the feathers off, and then clean it all out and cook it for my group. It was quite the learning experience. It wasn't quite bad as it seemed at first! I was so proud of myself! So, I must confess I have a pretty wide range of cooking skills!
Anyone can cook. As long as I take cooking seriously, my food always gets praise from friends, family, and my lovely husband! It always makes me so happy putting smiles on people's faces with the dishes I prepare and make.
So why am I blogging? To spread the love of cooking of course! I want to show people you do not have to go to cooking school to become a great chef. Paula Dean NEVER went to cooking school and look how far she has come. She learned from her grandma and mom. She has her own cooking show now and everything! I am hoping with this blog, I can be someone one like her, where people will want to try the things I cook and enjoy them!
Thanks for taking the time visiting my blog! Come back again soon ;-)
